71st National Film Awards 2025: Shah Rukh Khan for Jawan, Rani Mukerji for Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway, Vikrant Massey for 12th Fail: A look back at films for which stars bagged Best Actor trophy

The prestigious 71st National Film Awards ceremony was held yesterday at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. It was more than special for the Hindi film industry as two of the biggest celebs, Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji, bagged their first Best Actor and Best Actress trophies after spending so many years for their movies Jawan and Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway, respectively. SRK shared the Best Actor award with Vikrant Massey, who impressed everyone with his superlative performance in 12th Fail.

Shah Rukh Khan for Jawan

Starring mega Pan-India superstars  Shah Rukh Khan , Nayanthara, and Vijay Sethupathi, the Atlee directorial narrated the story of a man driven by a personal vendetta to rectify the wrongs in society while fulfilling a promise made years ago. He comes up against a monstrous outlaw with no fear, who has caused immense suffering to many. Shah Rukh Khan, seen in a dual role as both father and son, delivered an exceptional performance and won the National Award for Best Actor at the 71st National Film Awards. The film also won another National Award for Best Female Playback Singer, awarded to Shilpa Rao for Chaleya.

Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway is based on a real story The story of a fearless mother from Birati,  Sagarika Chakraborty who fought against Norway to get back her children will soon be on the silver screen. Sagarika Chakraborty’s custody war for her two kids had then hit the headlines, both in India and Norway, in 2012.

Vikrant Massey for 12th Fail

Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail is based on the real-life story of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma. The actor delivered a performance that was both deeply empathetic and powerfully inspiring, making the audience feel every triumph and struggle of Sharma’s journey. His nuanced acting, rooted in sincerity and realism, elevated the film and cemented his status as one of the finest and best actors of this generation.
