Things we learnt about Sudipta Sen today

“Sen sat next to a well dressed woman in a sari, Debjani Mukherjee. Sen and she appeared like joint owners, sitting together on one side and facing visitors across. Debjani was an important person in Sen’s set-up, symbolized by the fact that she sat on the same side of the huge desk,” Seema Guha, a senior journalist based out of Delhi and a former employee of Bengal Post writes in her post on The Hoot .

Apart from fraudulent investment schemes and media houses that tanked overnight, Saradha Group chairman Sudipta Sen’s personal life, especially his women, seemed to have grabbed eyeballs.

Arrested along with Sen was Debjani Mukherjee, the lady Guha mentions in her article.

However, if The Hoot article is anything to go by, Sen’s penchant for women was evident all over his businesses. Guha writes:

His office in Midland Park was filled with smiling young women, impeccably dressed in saris. These young girls were sweet and referred to Sen as “CMD Saar”. They could not part with the most innocuous information without first getting permission from “CMD Saar”.

According to an NDTV article, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had declared that she was told by some ministers that Sen had three wives. One doesn’t know if Banerjee made a random allegation in a desperate bid to distance her government from Sen, but given the mystery surrounding his background, one simply cannot say.

Mukherjee was produced at the court with Sen and was seen alighting the police van, face partially covered in a shawl, following Sen.

Monideepa Banerjee points out in her article on NDTV that Mukherjee was one of the directors of Sen’s chit fund company which went bust a few days back.

According to the article, Mukherjee, who is described as ‘strikingly good-looking’, had joined Sen’s travel business as a secretary in 2007. In her late twenties or early thirties, the aspiringair-hostess’ rise in the Saradha Group remains as mysterious and Sen’s own background. From being Sen’s secretary, Mukherjee quickly rose to the ranks of a director.

According to The Times of India, records in the corporate affairs department find that “Saradha Realty India, the Saradha Group flagship, had three more lady directors on the board - Debika Dasgupta, Poulami Mukherjee and Mitali Banerjee.” TOI also found that only one of them was over 30 years of age.

While nothing has been heard of Sen’s ’three wives’, we wonder if they can be found at all, given the rumour that Sen might have undergone several face-changing plastic surgeries!
