It’s been over a year since India got a new government and a new Prime Minister in Narendra Modi. Initial expectations were sky high, and especially so for captains of Indian business, who held high hopes of a changed and far more open business environment. And in that context, a year is a good time to gauge the mood of businesses in India.
Have acche din (good days) already arrived for growth-oriented India Inc. and even if a year is too early, do CEOs of Indian Businesses see it on the emerging horizon? Media reports often paint a slightly worrisome picture. But is that what India Inc. really thinks?
The Economist India Summit 2015, held recently in New Delhi examined, explored, debated and discussed some of the critical issues that affect, impact and empower business in India. And discussing these issues were decision-makers, corporate leaders and influencers from different walks of life. Standard Chartered (SC), the founding partner for this prestigious annual economic event, nominated four achievers from varied backgrounds to find out what they made of the current business mood in India and expectations in the near future, based on the discussions at the Economist India Summit 2015.
The annual event found much enthusiasm even on social media. Here is what the Twitterati said about the knowledge platform:

The #SCinsiders, Nandita Iyer, a renowned Nutrition Expert and Food Writer; Raj Kaushal, Film maker and Producer; Siddharth Singh, Economics and Geopolitics Researcher and Founder of Disruptions Collective and Ankur Tewari, a noteworthy Musician and Programming Head at Pepsi MTV Indies, were to bring out their unique insights based on their varied backgrounds.
The feedback was incredible. As Standard Chartered rightly assumed, experts from outside can often bring unique insights that a regular business observer may have missed:
- India’s digitisation is not just about connecting India with communication tools, but about transforming people’s lives as digitisation impacts areas like healthcare.
- Tax terrorism and the importance that Indians realise what it is and how this government aims to end it.
Want to understand how India should deal with China? Want to understand the real thinking behind the decisions of the Indian government that media may often miss? Want to figure what really drives our Prime Minister and his passion for technology?
