Rohan Murthy is no Infy director, just an assistant, says mother Sudha

As NR Narayana Murthy makes a comeback to Infosys along with his son Rohan Murthy, his wife Sudha Murthy spoke about his exact role in the organisation. Sudha Murthy said Rohan will only be an assistant to the Infosys Executive Chairman and will not be reporting to anyone else.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, Sudha Murthy said, “Rohan is not a director. He’s just an assistant. He doesn’t have any subordinates or any bosses, he will only report to Narayana.”

When asked if Narayana Murthy will be able to boost the morale of the company, she said, “I know I have always boosted the morale of Narayana Murthy, I am sure he will try his best.”

Asked if Narayana Murthy is nervous to comeback after 7 years, she said, “All of us work for Infosys in whatever capacity it’s possible, I don’t think he’s nervous.”

In a bid to bring the IT company back on the high growth path, Narayana Murthy returned as Executive Chairman and Additional Director on the Infosys Board. Murthy’s five-year tenure began from June 1, 2013 and he called his return as the start of the second innings.

“This is in some sense like second innings because it’s been seven years since I completed my executive responsibilities. When I came back here in an executive position, it is in some sense an exciting yet somewhat new challenge. This is an opportunity for me to add to the mission of Mr Shibulal (Managing Director and CEO of Infosys),” said Murthy while addressing the media with KV Kamath and Shibulal in Bangalore.

The reshuffle also saw Murthy’s son Rohan Murthy being appointed as his Executive Assistant. Murthy, who had earlier denied any possibility of passing the company’s baton to his son, said the only role that Rohan has is to make him effective and he will have no leadership role.
