The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has alerted customers about a fake website www.indiareserveban.org that was recently created with a fake motive of helping customers update their bank account details.
A lay person could easily be duped if they visit the page as the layout of the said website has been kept exactly similar to the original one https://www.rbi.org.in on which the central bank wants to spread awareness about.
Interestingly, like the home page of the original website looks the same as of the duplicate one that also contains an account verification section.
Read RBI’s press release here.“The home page of the fake website also contains a provision for ‘Bank verification with online account holders’ which appears to have been created with a fraudulent intent of obtaining personal and confidential banking details of customers of banks,” RBI said in a statement.
The RBI further revealed that it never asks for any information from customers’ about their bank accounts. The top bank alerts people that responding online on such websites could result in financial and other losses.
The central bank further says such websites as www.rbi.org, www.rbi.in etc are also not genuine. “These URLs may appear similar to the website of RBI,” the bank said in a statement.
