Within 24-hours of media speculation that Infosys chairman emeritus NR Narayana Murthy may run for the top post at New Delhi’s Raisina Hills, the veteran technocrat today clarified that he has no presidential ambitions.
On Thursday, Murthy, in an exclusive interview with _IBN Lokma_t said it would be a great honour to add value to the country. “I will be very happy, absolutely not doubt about it, but that I think is realm of speculation that is not for me to comment on and that is perhaps too early right now. We still have another nine months to go,” he had said.
He further said, “I am ready to add value to our people in any capacity. As I said, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is a very important public institution that reins public health workers, public health professionals, National Payments Corporation of India aims to be like the master card or visa. Therefore, I think I will be very happy whatever value I can add.”
However, when asked about the TV statement, he said it was mere speculation and anyways it was decided by others and not by him.
Murthy retired as Infosys chairman on 20 August this year. Recently, his comment about the poor quality of students entering the Indian Institutes of Technology had triggered a row. He was speaking about the need for overhauling the admission process to the prestigious institutions.
