Placements at the The Indian Institutes of Management have started on a damp note this year. The global economic slowdown has meant fewer recruiters and lower salaries for the students.
Faculty at both IIM - Ahmedabad and Bangalore - say that the placement scenario this year will be worse than 2009. The global economy is going through recession and India cannot remain immune to its effects. The faculty also said that both the institutes had seen a similar downturn in 2009.
Offers from global banking and consulting firms have seen a substantial fall this year.
The only silver lining is the fact that companies in developing economies will continue to hire. In particular, start-ups in India are expected to hire in a big way .
This year, faculty at the IIMs is banking on Indian manufacturing and infrastructure companies.
