Pune based S.H. Pitkar Orthotools manufactures orthopaedic instruments and appliances and also exports and imports medical instruments. The company has its manufacturing facility at MIDC in Bhosari and an employee strength of about 100.

S.H. Pitkar Orthotools recently deployed SAP Business One to fasten its batch processing procedure.

Tracking The Manufacturing Process

The company manufactures sensitive equipments and has to constantly comply with quality standards. There are generally 20-30 processes involved in the manufacturing of a particular product and each process has to be tracked. The company follows the batch processing procedure which is a very tedious one. The ERP solution from Supertech Solutions was not proving to be of great help due to the the lethargic post sales service and support.

Informs Nupur Pitkar, director, S. H. Pitkar Orthotools, “As we are into the manufacturing of orthopaedic tools and equipments we have to maintain some international compliance standards. Our earlier ERP solution was not at all up to the mark. We were looking for a solution which could give us real time information and avoid the duplication of data in our database.”

The company was also using MS Office tools for some applications like payroll and tax calculations. The process of manual entry of data was time consuming. Thus, the company was on the lookout for a solution that could streamline the business processes, thereby increasing productivity.

Implementing SAP Business One

After using the custom built ERP solution from Supertech, Pitkar wanted to go in for a reputed vendor who could provide them better after sales service and support. SAP ERP was thus selected and Inecom Technology was chosen to implement it. According to Pitkar, “The implementation process was a smooth one and was accomplished within three months. First, the sales and purchase department went live, followed by the other departments. Though, we have not yet activated the customer relationship management module, we plan to deploy it soon.”

The company is using AutoCAD and other software to design its products and has also integrated the same with the present solution. Each finished product is now assigned with a unique batch number by the SAP system. Orthotools is now able to change the production routes according to customer requirements.

Increased Quality Standards

Post deployment, Orthotools has been able to track the quality deviation at any stage of the manufacturing process, resulting in increased quality standard of the finished products. The inventory levels have also reduced drastically as the systems are providing exact data on raw material requirements. The disintegrated and scattered databases have now culminated into a single database.

“Online stock levels are now easily accessible by everyone inside the company. Now I can know the exact location and stage of the products being manufactured. The new system has also resulted in easy availability of information about the raw materials and finished products, enabling me to take proper decisions regarding inventory stocks. We have taken 18 licenses and plan to take some more for the marketing department,” concludes Pitkar.
