Tell us about Geodesic’s multilingual biometric solution

The multilingual biometric solution is a handheld transaction terminal to allow people deliver services remotely and cost effectively. It is a computer with a biometric system, printer and smartcard with GPRS, GPS all rolled into one and with sufficient battery to last through the day. So, the user in the field can take this device and complete his daily operations and come back to office, without having to charge it again.

Which companies are using this solution?

The companies using this solution are large system integrators and software companies. They are engaging with banks to deliver banking services to the masses. We supply it to the solution providers, who in turn supply it to the banks.

This solution is not just for banking, but also for any service that companies want to deliver remotely. It is also being used for the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGS), where the end user has a smartcard so the Contractor has the Biometric device remotely in the field and can register the attendance from the workplace. He authenticates the scheme beneficiary with the biometric and gives him the job on the basis of the skill sets and vacancy.

It is also used is the Public Distribution System (PDS), where the current ration card is replaced with a smartcard. The user is authenticated and he/she is then allocated the ration as per the entitlement.

What is the USP of your biometric solution?

There are different kinds of terminals that banks use, but if somebody is looking for security with biometric functionality then this is one of those, which not many vendors provide.

Some of the solutions available in the market do not have biometric functionality, while others have smartcards but are not biometric. On the other hand, some have printers but not connectivity. There are a variety of terminals, but all rolled into one, this is one of its kind.
