Dell is going to focus on IT simplification as part of its business strategies, its top official said.

“With proliferation of new technologies IT has become too complex and this being the recurrent complaint of our customers, we are now set to focus on simplifying IT and invest in innovation,” said Kevin Kettler, VP and CTO, unveiling the firm’s new business strategy.

IT could be simplified by removing complexity and reducing costs which could be done by “standardising, consolidating and automating the processes”, he said.

Standardising would involve slashing costs, achieving uniformity, reducing number of moving parts while consolidating would mean shrinking risks, driving unification and reducing number of touch points.

Automation would relate to managing growth, boosting productivity and reducing manual interaction, he said.

Complexity, said Kettler, inhibits growth and this had to be removed to drive more innovation. “Companies at present are spending 30% on innovation and 70% on maintenance. This has to be reversed”.

“Our focus is on dramatically improving the competitive advantage that customers get out of IT by investing on innovation,” said Paul-Henri Ferrand, president-APAC South (APACS), Dell Asia Pacific.

“Asia Pacific is one of the fastest growing regions for Dell, with a 30% growth year on year. Last quarter, Dell Asia Pacific clocked a revenue of $ 14.8 billion”, he said.
