Tata Motors finally launched the Hexa in India after almost an year of showcasing it. While the Hexa is using the same engine as the Safari Storme, a new report says that the company will be launching the next generation of Safari Storme SUV by next year.

Safari has been quite a successful car for the company but off late it has been overshadowed by the numerous mini and compact SUVs. It is expected to be based on the company’s new Utility Vehicle Platform and should be placed between the upcoming Nexon and the new Hexa SUV. The company has also started focusing on going premium so the new Safari will definitely get some high-end features. It is said that internally it is codenamed as Q5 and will be based on a similar platform as the Land Rover.

The new Safari is also expected to skip the current 2.2-litre Varicor diesel engine and get a new 2-litre diesel engine which will offer 150bhp with 320Nm of torque. This could be the same motor which  is expected to arrive on the upcoming Jeep Compass.

The new Safari could also get a nimble 1.5-litre diesel engine variant which will feature on the upcoming Nexon compact SUV. Expect a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox and just like the Hexa, the new generation Safari Storme design will utilise the Impact Design philosophy.
