Jaguar and Shell launch first in-car payment system; new F-Pace E-Performance diesel model launched

Jaguar and Shell have together launched their first in-car payment system that works via a Shell app at Shell service stations. The new Shell app is a part of a suite of the new model updates that arrive on the Jaguar XE, XF and the F-Pace.

Using the payment system is simple, as drivers can use PayPal or Apple Pay using their car’s touchscreen to pay at Shell service stations. And it makes even more sense for company car users as users can easily log journeys and receipts using the in-car touchscreen as well. An electronic receipt will be displayed on the touchscreen to confirm the transaction. A similar receipt will also reach the pump from the driver’s email address.

Shell says that the system is also beneficial for parents as they can pay without waking children or leaving them in car unattended. The new app will soon be available across the entire Jaguar and Land Rover range.

In the future, Jaguar Land Rover also plans to use the same technology at drive-through restaurants, with similar benefits for customers.

“In a world where cash is no longer king, customers are increasingly using electronic payments and contactless cards. Making a payment directly from a car’s touchscreen will make refuelling quicker and easier. With this new system you can choose any pump on the forecourt and pay for the fuel even if you’ve forgotten your wallet or can’t find your credit or debit card. You will save time because there’s no more queuing to pay in a shop, and for drivers with children, it won’t be necessary to wake them up, or unstrap them from their seats to take them into the shop. Expenses and tax returns will also be made much simpler, with no receipts to lose as these will all be sent electronically.” said Peter Virk, Director of Connected Car and Future Technology at JLR.

Jaguar XE

The new app is one of the many updates that come to new lineup from Jaguar that covers the 2018 model year F-Pace, XF and XE models. The new lineup now includes new powertrain options including the latest Ingenium engines that deliver improved efficiency and performance.

Jaguar claims that its new E-Performance diesel model deliveres emissions as low as 126g/km along with a fuel economy of 59.2mpg (4.8 l/100km) that translates to fewer refuelling stops. There are two new engine options in the form of a high-output 240PS diesel and advanced new 250PS Ingenium petrol engine. The XE sports saloon also get another engine option with a 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 380PS.
