This reshuffle breaks long-standing political norms in China. The Organisation Department and the United Front Work Department, now under new leadership, play key roles in internal promotions and external influence.
It aligns with Xi’s strategy to remove potential rivals and tighten control. Despite his decade-long anti-corruption campaign, he continues to warn of corruption as the CCP’s “biggest threat."
Even loyalists are not exempt, reinforcing a climate of fear that stifles dissent but may also slow decision-making as China faces economic and geopolitical challenges.
The move raises questions about Xi’s long-term plans and party stability. Some see it as a sign of strength, while others believe it signals internal resistance.
According to SCMP, 60-year-old Li Ganjie now leads the United Front Work Department. A technocrat with expertise in nuclear safety and environmental policy, he is the youngest member of the 24-member Politburo.
Xi Jinping has been the paramount leader of China since 2012, holding the top positions in the Communist Party, the military, and the state. His leadership has significantly influenced China’s political landscape, emphasising centralised authority and an assertive global stance.
