Maryam Monsef, Minister of Status of Women in Canada, emphasised three base support system for women who face sexual harassment. First is an active redressal and support system to aide the woman. Second comes a rigorous support system to help the family cope with the trauma, and third is a strong and responsive legal support system that gives them justice.

Shah Rukh Khan reveals how he came to work with acid attack victims

Khan said he frequently visits a hospital for his shoulder injury and he met two kids from Kashmir who had lost their family in a abomb attack and had suffered 60-70 percent burn injuries. He said their story, and because the children were the same age as his kids, inspired him to read more about the issue and he found out that officially their were 400 women who suffered acid attacks and survived after grave burn injuries.

Crystal award was a result of other people’s bravery and work: Shah Rukh Khan

Elaborating further on his thoughts on recieveing the award, Khan said that by working with acid attack victims, he found out that we are as a society only too eager to give definitions, and branch new descriptions of these people. However, he said he realised over time that these women didn’t need such things." They were quite brave on their own. What they needed was our presence, acceptance and perhaps a show of solidarity," Khan said. 

He said he is not being modest but quite frankly this particular award was the result of other people’s bravery and strength and he had only offered them his present and his solidarity.

Modi met Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

Trudeau will visit India from February 17-23 with an aim to further strengthen bilateral ties. This will be his second time in India. Modi and Trudeau had last met on the sidelines of the G20 in Hamburg in Germany in July 2017, where they discussed longstanding relationship based on shared culture of democracy. Trudeau is expected to visit with his family and a business delegation.

West must share benefits of growth with emerging world, says Raghuram Rajan

Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan on Tuesday said the Western world must realise they cannot go a long way without the help of the emerging economies and warned that no one would be able to resolve any problem of a ‘fractured world’ if things are not set right soon.

Without naming any country, he said the West must realise that their population is ageing and the demand for their products would mostly come from the emerging world.

Speaking in Davos at a session of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, Rajan said there is a risk that by the time the West goes to the emerging world for their support, they may have to answer quite a few questions about why they did not share the benefits earlier.

India should focus on women’s inclusion in economy, says IMF chief Christine Lagarde

IMF chief Christine Lagarde on Tuesday said India must continue with reforms especially in the financial services sector and should urgently focus on broad-based and true inclusion of women in its economy.

Addressing a press conference here as part of the all-women co-chairs of the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meet, Lagarde said IMF research has shown that raising women’s participation in the workforce to the level of men can boost Indian economy by 27 percent.

He will also interact with 120 members of the International Business Council on Tuesday, which is a part of the WEF. The prime minister is likely to emphasise his government’s vision of a ‘New India’ and position himself and the country as a democracy willing to engage with all corners in a friendly, multi-dimensional manner, according to The Economic Times . Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis told ANI that global CEOs applauded India’s efforts to bring in a regime like GST. “GST and demonestisation were bold initiatives and people now feel economy is getting cleaner and predictable,” he added. The prime minister is accompanied by six Union ministers, including Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu, Dharmendra Pradhan, MJ Akbar and Jitendra Singh. Besides, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, over 100 CEOs will also accompany Modi. This will take Indian delegation’s total to 129 — the fourth highest after the US (780), the UK (266) and Switzerland (233 people). China will have 118 participants.
