'We are looking for you': Trump warns of 20 years of jail term for 'sabotaging' Tesla cars

After a series of attacks on Tesla and its distribution, US President Donald Trump warned on Friday that those responsible, including those funding the attacks, could face up to 20 years in jail.

“Anyone caught sabotaging Teslas could go to jail for up to 20 years, including the funders. WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Tesla has been facing widespread protests across the US since its CEO, Elon Musk, took charge as chief of the Department of Government Efficiency in Washington.

In recent weeks, several Tesla vehicles have been vandalised, and even Molotov cocktails have been thrown at the company’s dealerships by those angry with Musk’s actions.

The department has laid off thousands of federal workers to cut government spending, leading to legal challenges from various states and organisations.

US Attorney General labels such acts as ‘domestic terrorism’

Earlier, US Attorney General Pamela Bondi said on Thursday that three people had been charged in connection with arson incidents at Tesla car dealerships and charging stations, labelling such incidents as ‘domestic terrorism’. The Justice Department said the individuals each face between five and 20 years in prison if convicted.

“Let this be a warning: if you join this wave of domestic terrorism against Tesla properties, the Department of Justice will put you behind bars,” Bondi said.
