WATCH | US releases drone video of Hamas looting aid truck in Gaza

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has shared drone footage allegedly showing suspected Hamas operatives looting an aid truck in the southern Gaza Strip. The incident coincided with the visit of US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine to Israel, where he was hosted by Israel Defence Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.

According to CENTCOM, the US-led Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC), based in Kiryat Gat in southern Israel, detected the incident while overseeing a humanitarian convoy carrying aid from international partners to Gazans in northern Khan Younis. The centre, established under US leadership, coordinates humanitarian, logistical, and security assistance into Gaza and assists in postwar stabilisation efforts. About 200 American military personnel have been deployed to operate the facility, which also includes troops from several allied nations.

The CMCC was alerted to the looting through video surveillance captured by an American MQ-9 drone flying over Gaza to monitor adherence to the Israel–Hamas ceasefire. The New York Times previously reported, citing Israeli and US defence officials, that the US military had deployed surveillance drones over Gaza with Israel’s consent to ensure compliance with the ceasefire.

CENTCOM stated that “operatives attacked the driver and stole the aid and truck after moving the driver to the road’s median,” adding that the driver’s condition remains unknown.

US condemns looting, calls for Hamas to cease interference

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also shared the footage on X, asserting that Hamas has continued to seize humanitarian aid meant for civilians in Gaza since the ceasefire took effect last month. “Hamas continues to deprive the people of Gaza of the humanitarian aid they desperately need. This theft undermines international efforts in support of President Trump’s 20 Point Plan to deliver critical assistance to innocent civilians,” Rubio wrote.

He added that “Hamas is the impediment. They must lay down their arms and stop their looting so that Gaza can have a brighter future.”

Israel has similarly accused Hamas of stealing supplies from aid deliveries managed by the UN and other international organisations. The UN has reported a marked decrease in looting since the ceasefire began, with only five per cent of supplies intercepted between October 10 and October 28, compared to over 80% between May 19 and October 9, according to UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.

In August, the UN acknowledged that nearly nine out of every ten aid trucks entering Gaza earlier in the year had been looted before reaching their intended destinations, either by desperate civilians or armed groups.
