WATCH | Pakistan lawmakers turn Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly into WWE ring, punch, kick when denied to talk

In what can only be described as bizarre, an altercation broke out in Pakistan’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, after government and opposition lawmakers got into a full-blown fist-fight, exchanging punches and kicks following a debate.

The chaos erupted on Tuesday when opposition members expressed frustration over the speaker’s refusal to grant them time to speak on the floor.

Tensions escalated dramatically when PTI member Nek Wazir clashed with fellow PTI Parliamentarian Iqbal Wazir, both representing Waziristan.

Supporters from both lawmakers soon joined the fray, exacerbating the disorder within the assembly.

While the speaker called for a 15-minute recess due to the uproar, the session was ultimately adjourned as disorder continued to reign at the parliament.

Earlier in the session, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur delivered a passionate speech, criticising the actions of opposition parties and defending the government’s stance. He condemned the recent attack on the K-P House in Islamabad as an affront to the province’s dignity and labelled the attack on the Corps Commander’s House in Lahore on May 9, 2023, a “false flag operation.”

Opposition leader Ahmad Kundi of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) countered, accusing the chief minister of inconsistency and calling for responsible governance. “We have 5.5 million children out of school, and this issue needs our attention,” Kundi stated, urging the assembly to focus on stability and effective governance.

Amidst all the turmoil, police arrested three individuals, including MPA Iqbal Wazir’s nephew Mujeebullah and relative Naqeebullah. The speaker later summoned both lawmakers to his chamber in an attempt to mediate and de-escalate the situation.

However, despite all efforts to restore order, the assembly session could not continue, following which the building was cleared, with lights turned off and all participants asked to exit.
