Heavy rains have lashed parts of Saudi Arabia with the key holy cities of Mecca, Madinah and Jeddah flooded impacting day-to-day lives and traffic flow.
Videos on social media show water gushing through streets, pushing away stationary cars parked along them and buildings submerged due to incessant rain and thunderstorms.
According to a report by the Saudi Gazette, Madinah’s Al-Shafiyah received the highest downpour at 49.2 mm while the Al-Basateen district in Jeddah city recorded 38 mm of rain.
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a red alert for heavy rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds in multiple regions, lasting until Tuesday.
Hussein Al-Qahtani, the spokesperson of NCM, has predicted more moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming days, adding that they might spread to the entire Kingdom.
