A major row ensued between two US congresswomen over each other’s appearance. The brawl of words broke out between controversial Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene and rival Democrat Jasmine Crockett. During the stormy session, Greene accused Crockett of not reading something correctly and insisted that it was her “fake eyelashes” that were blocking her vision.
The war of words began after Democrats asked Greene if she knew “what we’re here for”. During the House Oversight Committee hearing, Greene slammed Crockett for wearing “fake eyelashes”. The video of the intense exchange stirred a major debate on social media.
“I don’t think you know what you’re here for. I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading,” the far-right Republican leader exclaimed. The provocative remark promoted backlash from Democrat Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who asked the comments to be stricken down from the record.

“That is absolutely unacceptable. How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person?” AOC asked. “Are your feelings hurt? Aw,” Greene replied sarcastically.

The argument escalated after Greene said that her opponents did not have “enough intelligence” to debate her. Moments later, Crockett asked the committee members if they would allow them to “start talking about somebody’s bleach blonde, bad-built butch body,” referring to Greene’s appearance.
The comment prompted a further uproar and a visibly confused committee chairman James Comer replied: “A what now?” This eventually led to both sides shouting over each other. The chaos ensued while the committee was hearing a resolution to recommend that US Attorney General Merrick Garland be held in contempt of Congress.
House Speaker pushes for ‘decorum’
Meanwhile, US Speaker of the House Mike Johnson condemned the fiery exchange and insisted members needed to show decorum. “It’s not a good look for Congress,” Johnson told reporters on Friday. The Republican speaker went on to chide both parties and emphasised that while “vigorous debate” was welcomed, “we have to treat one another with dignity and respect.”
“Decorum is an important principle to maintain,” he said. “And we need people on both sides of the aisle to just, I think, just take the emotion out of it. We can have a vigorous debate. That’s what this institution is built upon. But you know, we have to treat one another with dignity and respect,” Johnson added.
