 "‘Verify your facts, dear…’: India blocs X handles of China’s Global Times, Turkey’s TRT among others")
In a bid to fight misinformation, India has withheld the accounts of Chinese state-run news agencies, Global Times and Xinhua, and Turkey’s TRT World.
This comes just days after the Indian Embassy in China issued a strong warning to the media outlet, urging it to verify facts before sharing information on social media.
The Embassy said, “Dear Global Timesnews, we would recommend you verify your facts and cross-examine your sources before pushing out this kind of disinformation.”
In another post, the Embassy said, “Several pro-Pakistan handles are spreading baseless claims in the context of #OperationSindoor, attempting to mislead the public. When media outlets share such information without verifying sources, it reflects a serious lapse in responsibility and journalistic ethics.”
The Embassy issued its statement following viral posts by Pakistani accounts and some media outlets claiming that an Indian Rafale jet had been shot down near Bahawalpur.
‘Boycott Turkey’ gets TRT World
As calls for boycotting Turkey and its products grow stronger for the country’s support to Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack, India has blocked TRT World, the Turkish broadcaster.
India’s trade relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan are expected to come under strain due to Ankara and Baku backing Islamabad and condemning India’s recent strikes on terror camps in Pakistan.
Following their support to Pakistan, calls for Turkish goods and tourism have surfaced across the country, with online travel platforms such as EaseMyTrip and Ixigo issuing advisories against visiting these nations.
