Britain on Monday announced what it said was its largest package of sanctions against Russia since the early days of the war in Ukraine, including companies worldwide that supply components used by the Russian military.
The package of measures would target “Russia’s military machine, entities in third countries who support it and the fragile supply networks that it relies on”, a foreign office statement said.
The government also sanctioned a further 40 vessels Britain said were being used to help Russia evade sanctions by transporting its oil.
”Every military supply line disrupted, every rouble blocked, and every enabler of Putin’s aggression exposed is a step towards a just and lasting peace,” British foreign minister David Lammy said.
It comes amid a recent push by US President Donald Trump to negotiate peace in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Moreover, Kyiv and its European allies have been excluded from the talks with Russia about the conflict’s future.
