UK Chocolate brand ridiculed for launching bar that claims to ease 'menopause' symptoms

One of UK’s leading health food chain Holland & Barrett has been ridiculed widely for its new chocolate bar that claims to ease symptoms of menopause in women.

Priced at £3.79, marketed as a soothing aid for menopause symptoms, the chocolate bar claims to contribute to “the regulation of hormonal activity”. The 75g dark chocolate bar contains vitamin B6, commonly found in almonds.

Reacting on the product, UK menopause campaigner Kate Muir expressed strong disapproval, called it a “ridiculous money-making product”. She accused it of exploiting vulnerable women.

She highlighted the importance of seeking proper medical help from the NHS instead of relying on such products, particularly highlighting the concerning peak in suicide rates among women in perimenopause.

Social media echoed Muir’s sentiment, rejecting the product as “insulting” and “patronising profiteering tosh.” Adding to the controversy, it was revealed that the chocolate bars also contain the entire daily allowance of saturated fat for an average woman.

Responding to the backlash, a spokesperson for Holland & Barrett defended the product, stating that their food range aims to offer functional food products as alternatives to popular snacks.

The company statement stressed that chocolate bar and its contents will contribute to a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle, positioning it as a small indulgence with added benefits compared to other chocolate bars.
