While reiterating his false claims that the 2020 US Presidential Election was stolen, former US President Donald Trump unleashed lethal warnings against anyone who engages in “unscrupulous behaviour” during the 2024 race results. Trump issued the threat in a post on TruthSocial. The former President accused Democrats of “rampant Cheating and Skullduggery” and said that he would imprison anyone who engages in “malicious behavior” during the November polls.
“The 2024 Election, where Votes have just started being cast, will be under the closest professional scrutiny and, WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again,” the former reality TV star wrote on TruthSocial.
“Please beware that this legal exposure extends to Lawyers, Political Operatives, Donors, Illegal Voters, & Corrupt Election Officials. Those involved in unscrupulous behavior will be sought out, caught, and prosecuted at levels, unfortunately, never seen before in our Country,” he added. The threat is part of the wide-ranging agenda he laid out during his campaign after losing the 2020 polls to US President Joe Biden.
Not a novel threat
This is not the first time Trump has threatened to put his political opponents in prison. In 2016, way before the 2020 polls, the business-mogul-turned-politician threatened to jail his then-presidential opponent Hillary Clinton.
However, the 2020 election saga saw poll workers across the country being subject to threats, most famously Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss. Two election workers’ entire lives were uprooted when Trump and his allies targeted them after the 2020 election with false accusations of fraud. Trump’s provocative statements eventually led to the January 6 riots in Capitol Hill.
Trump reiterated his desire to ensure that the integrity of the polls remains intact, while he was addressing a crowd in Wisconsin. He claimed that the GOP must “stop Democrats from cheating”. “We gotta stop the cheating. If we stop that cheating, if we don’t let them cheat, I don’t even have to campaign anymore,” Trump said. “We’re going to win by so much. In the meantime, too big to rig, too big to rig.”
