US President Donald Trump on Thursday took aim at India and Russia, saying he doesn’t care about India’s ties with Moscow and calling both their economies “dead.” In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care,” while a ccusing India of imposing some of the highest tariffs in the world , which he claimed has limited US-India trade.
In the same post, Trump also lashed out at Russia’s Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, calling him a “failed former President” and warning him to “watch his words,” saying he is “entering very dangerous territory.”
The US President’s remarks came just a day after he announced 25 per cent tariffs on Indian imports and penalties over New Delhi’s continued purchases from Russia.
“Remember, while India is our friend, we have, over the years, done relatively little business with them because their Tariffs are far too high, among the highest in the World, and they have the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary Trade Barriers of any Country,” Trump said, citing a “massive” trade deficit with India.
Taking a dig at India’s defence ties with Moscow, he emphasised that New Delhi “has always bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia” and remains one of its top energy buyers “at a time when everyone wants Russia to stop the killing in Ukraine.”
