US President Donald Trump said that he has no plans to deport British Prince Harry, saying that the royal has “enough problems” with his wife, Meghan Markle. The president’s swipe at Markle came during his interview with the New York Post. In the past, Trump has expressed his wish to deport the prince and frequently questioned his immigration status.

“I don’t want to do that. I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible,” he told the New York Post on Friday. Interestingly, the Heritage Foundation, the right-wing think tank behind Project 2025, has been pushing to know more about Harry’s immigration status. The pressure became even more significant after the British royal admitted to using drugs in the past in his memoir titled Spare.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The think tank has called for the release of Harry’s immigration paperwork and often argued about the possibility of the Duke of Sussex lying on the form about his past drug use. The organisation accused the former US President Joe Biden’s administration of giving “special treatment” to the young prince.

Harry’s immigration status under the radar

In the past, the foundation sued the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after the federal agency rejected the Heritage Foundation’s Freedom of Information Act requesting to release Harry’s record. The request by the department was declined back in 2023, but a judge this week said that he is considering the case.

On Wednesday, US District Judge Carl Nichols said that he overseeing why DHS officials fought the records request. Nichols is considering whether to release part or all of those declarations to the Heritage Foundation, Global News reported. The judge who has already been shown some, but not all, of Harry’s immigration records — said he’s also considering whether to request more records from the government.

However, it is pertinent to note that the prince is not a part of that lawsuit. Harry has expressed his disapproval of Trump over the years. Even Markle has been an ardent critic of Trump as well. Back in 2016, before she even met the Prince, the actress-turned-British royalty called the then-new president a “misogynist” and “divisive” during an interview with Larry Wilmore.
