At this point in the term, US President Donald Trump has the worst approval rating in decades.
Just days ahead of the 100-day mark of his second term, Trump’s approval rating stands at just 40 per cent, according to Pew Research Center.
Some of Trump’s most ambitious policies in the second term are the most popular. The survey found that the majority of Americans disapprove of Trump’s rollout of tariffs, dismantling of the federal government led by billionaire Elon Musk, and defiance of court order to bring back a wrongly deported man from El Salvador.
The survey found that 59 per cent of Americans disapprove of Trump’s tariff war, 55 per cent disapprove of the cuts to the government department led by Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), and 51 per cent say that Trump is setting too much policy via executive orders.
Since assuming office in the second term, Trump has bypassed the Congress and the judiciary to rule by decree with executive orders. For context, Trump has used a wartime law to deport migrants — only Congress has the authority to decare war in the United States. Trump has also sought to cancel the birthright citizenship that is enshrined in the US constitution.
With President Donald Trump’s second term approaching its 100-day mark, his approval rating is down from February and several of his key policy actions are viewed more negatively than positively by the public. https://t.co/IGuoUcAJoL pic.twitter.com/MDfdBEjcJk
