President Donald Trump dismissed Admiral Linda Lee Fagan from her duties as Chief of the US Coast Guard just a day after taking office of the White House. Fagan made history as the first woman to lead a branch of the US armed forces.

The Donald Trump administration fired the chief of the US Coast Guard Admiral Linda Lee Fagan on Tuesday, just 24 hours after taking charge, a senior Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official confirmed to Fox News.

Admiral Linda was the first female officer to lead a branch of US armed forces. She was sworn in as the chief of the Coast Guard on June 1, 2022, during former President Biden’s term.

“She had a long and distinguished career, and I thank her for her service to our country,” said acting DHS Secretary Benjamin Huffman in a message to the Coast Guard.

She worked on all seven continents, from the snowy Ross Island in Antarctica to the heart of Africa, and from Tokyo to Geneva, with many stops in between, according to a biography post on the Coast Guard website. But, the post is now removed from the official website.

A spokesperson for the DHS told Newsweek that Admiral Kevin Lunday will serve as the acting commandant of the Coast Guard. Lunday was Fagan’s deputy and was serving as vice commandant under her.

Fagan is accused of failing to properly use the assets Coast Guard to help secure national borders to stop illegal immigration and drugs.

The swearing-in ceremony of the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, was held on Monday (January 20).

President Donald Trump began his second term with a series of aggressive actions. He signed multiple executive orders aimed at reversing policies from the previous Biden administration. Notably, he withdrew the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement and the World Health Organisation, aligning with his “America First” agenda.

Just hours after his inauguration, Trump announced plans to pardon about 1,500 US Capitol rioters who stormed the building to challenge the 2020 election results.
