The Donald Trump administration fired the chief of the US Coast Guard Admiral Linda Lee Fagan on Tuesday, just 24 hours after taking charge, a senior Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official confirmed to Fox News.
Admiral Linda was the first female officer to lead a branch of US armed forces. She was sworn in as the chief of the Coast Guard on June 1, 2022, during former President Biden’s term.
“She had a long and distinguished career, and I thank her for her service to our country,” said acting DHS Secretary Benjamin Huffman in a message to the Coast Guard.
She worked on all seven continents, from the snowy Ross Island in Antarctica to the heart of Africa, and from Tokyo to Geneva, with many stops in between, according to a biography post on the Coast Guard website. But, the post is now removed from the official website.
A spokesperson for the DHS told Newsweek that Admiral Kevin Lunday will serve as the acting commandant of the Coast Guard. Lunday was Fagan’s deputy and was serving as vice commandant under her.
Fagan is accused of failing to properly use the assets Coast Guard to help secure national borders to stop illegal immigration and drugs.
The swearing-in ceremony of the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, was held on Monday (January 20).
