Trump expects US-Ukraine critical minerals deal soon, says power plant ownership talks underway

US President Donald Trump said Monday that he expects a US-Ukraine revenue-sharing agreement on Ukrainian critical minerals will be finalised soon.

Speaking to reporters during a Cabinet meeting, Trump also noted that discussions are underway regarding the potential ownership of Ukrainian power plants by American firms.

A US delegation held talks with Ukrainian officials on Sunday and met with Russian officials on Monday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. While the discussions have primarily focused on a Black Sea ceasefire, Trump said other issues are being raised as he pushes to end Russia’s three-year war against Ukraine.

”We’re talking about territory right now. We’re talking about lines of demarcation, Talking about power, power plant ownership. Some people are saying the United States should own the power plant…because we have the expertise,” he said.

President Donald Trump is pushing for a rapid end to the three-year war and hopes the latest round of talks will pave the way for a breakthrough.

While the talks took place at a luxury hotel in the Saudi capital, 65 people were wounded in a missile attack on Sumy in northeastern Ukraine, officials said.

The attack on a “densely populated residential area” damaged apartments and an educational facility, the regional prosecutor’s office said. The city’s acting mayor earlier said a hospital had been affected.
