Trump appointee orders prosecutor to drop case against NYC mayor, she resigns

Days after the Trump administration ordered the prosecutors to drop the case against New York Mayor Eric Adams, at least six prosecutors have resigned.

The Department of Justice on Monday ordered federal prosecutors to drop the case against Adams. Emil Bove, the number two official at the department at the moment, ordered Manhattan prosecutors to drop the case with the argument that the prosecution hindered Adam’s ability to enforce Trump’s ongoing crackdown on illegal immigrants.

Even though Adams is a Democrat, he has moved close to Trump in recent days as investigations into his allegedly corrupt dealings picked up pace. As per a quid pro quoi, Trump is getting the case dropped in addition to help with the crackdown on illegal immigrants.

However, instead of dropping the case, Danielle Sassoon, the acting US Attorney for Manhattan resigned from her post, according to New York Times.

Following her resignation, the DoJ transgerred the case to the public integrity section where two officials leading the team resigned. Hours, later, three more lawyers in the team resigned.

Adams’ proseuction began in 2021 over corruption allegations. He has been five charges against him, including conspiracy, wire fraud, soliciting illegal foreign campaign contributions from foreign nationals, and bribery, according to The Times.

Adams is accused of accepting more than $100,000 in flight upgrade and airline tickets, pressuring officials to speed up approval of a new Turkish consulate, and receiving illegal foreign campaign contributions in what’s said to be a fraud worth millions, as per the newspaper.
