All major mobile networks in Spain went down on Tuesday, only four weeks after the country had a nationwide power outage.

Movistar, Orange, Vodafone, Digimobil, and O2 were all said to have been affected.

According to Downdetector, network connectivity issues began about 5 a.m. today.

Emergency phone lines have been restored in Aragon, near the French border, but issues still exist elsewhere, according to Metro.

The causes of the disruptions are yet unknown.

Reports indicate that Madrid, Andalucía, Galicia, the Basque Country, Aragon, Navarra, Extremadura, and the Valencian Community were all hit.

After phone lines collapsed as a result of Telefonica’s network renovations, emergency services in some places were forced to issue new phone numbers to individuals in need.

According to Spanish media accounts, landline telephones were the most severely disrupted, although all Telefonica voice services appear to have been impacted to some level.

“We have carried out some network upgrades that have affected specific services at some companies. We are working to resolve this,” stated a Telefónica spokesperson. Some communities reported phone service restoring later in the morning.

Telefonica informed MailOnline that network upgrades had impacted several organisations’ fixed communication services, including voice and internet.

Aragón, Extremadura, the Basque Country, and the Valencia community all experienced disruptions to their emergency service lines, with citizens previously warned that they would be unable to call the 112 number.
