A US F-16 aerobatic pilot penned an emotional tribute after cancelling his demonstration at the Dubai Airshow days after Indian Wing Commander Namansh Syal passed away during his manoeuvre at the Dubai Airshow in his Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA Mk-1). Calling it a “shocking” decision by the organisers to continue the flying display after the fatal accident.
The pilot said that his team chose to withdraw from the final show as a mark of tribute and respect to the fallen Indian pilot and his family.
Taking to Instagram, US aerobatic pilot Taylor “FEMA” Hiester said that it was uncomfortable and received texts from multiple people checking on his team after the full blown tragedy. He reflected on how his team watched the aftermath from a distance while thinking of the Indian maintenance crew standing by an empty parking spot and the pilot’s belongings left untouched in his car.

He later emphasised that the show must go on is common is aviation shows and it should never overshadow respect for those who lose their lives during their duty.
Tejas crash at Dubai Airshow
The incident occurred during a flying display at the Dubai Air show 2025 when a Tejas fighter jet crashed near Al Maktoum International Airport, taking the life of Wing Commander Namansh Syal. The accident occurred while performing manoeuvre at a low altitude.
Last rites
The final rites of Namansh Syal were performed on Sunday in accordance with traditional practices in place following the gun-salute, procession, and wreath laying ceremony in his native village Patialkar, in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.
