Russia reiterated it had no role to play in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping meeting last week on the sidelines of 16th Brics Summit, but emphasised that Moscow was “happy” that the two leaders held a bilateral, the first in five years, in Kazan city.

Welcoming the India-China’s agreement on military disengagement at two friction points across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) - Demchok and Depsang Plains in eastern Ladakh, Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov said that the two countries need to speak in ‘one voice’ for ‘holistic development and unity around the world’."

Russia values strengthening of India-China ties

A report by The Indian Express quoted Alipov as saying that during their meeting in Kazan, PM Modi and Xi discussed border issues and bilateral cooperation.

He further said that Russia values “strengthening of ties between India and China”.

India-China good relation beneficial for world

Alipov said, “It is important and desirable that India and China maintain stable and good relations. This is favourable for Eurasian security and beneficial for the world at large,” as he highlighted the comments made by PM Modi on Eurasian prosperity hinting on strong India-China relations after the meeting in Kazan.

Brics not anti-West

Alipov said that the 16th BRICS summit that concluded last week in Kazan was a “total success”.

He went on to say that the grouping is “not an exclusive but an inclusive platform”. “BRICS is not anti-West but non-West,” he said.

Russia’s envoy to India further said that the summit that was held in an extended format for the first time, brought together leaders from 35 countries who focused on development issues, global governance reform, and increased cooperation for the Global South.

Alipov also stated that one of the key outcomes of the summit was the creation of a new category of Brics “partner states” enabling more countries to engage with bloc’s initiative.
