In the early hours of Tuesday, Poland activates air defences and deployed fighter planes amid Russian aerial assaults inside Ukraine.
Russia struck western Ukraine bordering Poland among other areas Tuesday morning. All of Ukraine was under air raid alerts starting at around 5:50 am local time.
In a post on X, Polish military’s operational command said it continues to monitor the situation and remains in a state of readiness.
In Ukraine, Kyiv region’s Governor Mykola Kalashnyk was quoted as saying by Reuters that the Russian attack there injured a 44-year-old woman and damaged several houses.

The attacks come at a time when Russia has entered into talks with the United States regarding the war in Ukraine. Notably, the talks do not include Ukraine or the United States. There are signs that US President Donald Trump, who has established himself as firmly in Russia’s camp, is interesting in making a direct deal with Russian leader Vladimir Putin by bypassing Ukraine.
US and Russian officials will meet in Saudi Arabia to hold the second round of their talks on Tuesday. In the first round last week, the two sides held delegation-level talks led by their foreign ministers. Even though US Secretary of State pitched talks as part of an effort to establish a working relationship with Russia, the talks were seen as part of a realignment under Trump where the United States is ditching the alliance with Europe to enter into an alliance with traditional adversary Russia.
In the post on X, the Polish operational command said that ground-based defence, radar systems, and warplanes were mobilised in response to Russian threats.
“The steps taken are aimed at ensuring safety in areas bordering the threatened areas. The Operational Command of the Armed Forces is monitoring the current situation, and its subordinate forces and resources remain in full readiness for immediate response,” said the command.
