Russia accuses US of ‘piracy’ in Caribbean over Venezuela blockade

Russia’s foreign ministry on Thursday accused the United States of bringing back acts akin to piracy and banditry in the Caribbean by imposing a blockade on Venezuela while expressing hope that US President Donald Trump’s pragmatic approach would help avert a crisis.

Zakharova said Moscow consistently supports efforts to reduce tensions and voiced hope that Trump’s pragmatism and rational judgment would lead to mutually acceptable solutions reached in line with international law, helping prevent a disastrous outcome.
