US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that the car explosion in Delhi was “clearly a terrorist attack”, adding that India is doing “a good job of carrying out an investigation.”
Speaking to reporters in Canada on Wednesday after the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Rubio said that Washington has offered help to India in carrying out a probe into the blast that has killed 12 people. He, however, said that India is “very capable of carrying out these investigations” and that “they don’t need our help.”
The State Secretary also said that he discussed the Delhi incident with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar, who is also attending the G7 meeting. Rubio said, “Clearly, it was a terrorist attack. It was a car loaded with highly explosive materials that detonated and killed a lot of people. But I think they are doing a very good job of carrying out an investigation, and I think they have facts and that they will release those facts.”
Rubio’s statement comes after the US issued an advisory for its citizens following the explosion. The US Embassy updated its contact page with phone numbers of the consuls general across India. It advised its citizens to avoid travelling in areas surrounding the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk, steer clear of crowded places, be aware of their surroundings and stay alert in locations frequented by tourists.
India designates blast as terror attack
The Central government, on Wednesday, termed the blast in Delhi’s Red Fort as a ’terror incident’, while directing investigative agencies to deal with the case with “utmost urgency and professionalism”.
The move came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a Cabinet meeting, following which a resolution was passed regarding the Delhi blast.
“The country has witnessed a heinous terror incident, perpetrated by anti-national forces, through a car explosion near the Red Fort on the evening of 10 November 2025. The explosion resulted in multiple fatalities, and caused injuries to several others,” the government said in a statement.
