US President Joe Biden hit out at Russia’s President Vladimir for invading Ukraine in February 2022, and also slammed former US President Donald Trump for “bowing down” to the aggressor.
Biden told the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in his farewell speech that he believed his Vice-President and presidential nominee Kamala Harris “won’t do it”.
Biden said, “Putin thought he’d take Kyiv in three days. Three years later, Ukraine is still free.”
The US president said America will continue to work to keep Europe united and strengthen Nato, the trans-Atlantic military treaty group, to deal with the security threats that the two continents face.
Hitting out at Trump, Biden said when his predecessor left the White House four years ago, “the Nato was in tatters”. He said his administration worked to strengthen Nato. Calling it one of his proudest accomplishments,
Biden said he rallied Nato to take on Putin.
He said, “Trump bows to Putin. Kamala Harris will never do it.”
Biden won a huge ovation in the farewell speech at the Democratic National Convention, after Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance to thank him for being an “incredible” president.
“I love you,” the tearful 81-year-old president told the crowd to deafening cheers, less than a month after dropping out of the White House race against Donald Trump and passing the torch to his vice president.
Biden took to the stage to chants of “We love you Joe” from the same party which had pushed him out over concerns about his age, in one of the biggest political shocks in US political history.
