Police have registered a case against the organisers and participants of a Youm-e-Quds procession in Budgam district, Jammu and Kashmir, for allegedly disturbing law and order by raising objectionable slogans.
Meanwhile, thousands of people marched in different parts of Kashmir on Friday to observe Al-Quds Day in support of Palestine.
J&K police have filed an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against organisers in some areas for raising pro-Hezbollah slogans and flags, The Times of India reported.
The procession took place in Sonpah village, Beerwah, on the last Friday of Ramzan, an annual event held in support of Palestine.
According to the police, a large crowd gathered under the organisers’ directions and blocked the Sonpah-Beerwah road, causing public inconvenience.
Case registered for protests in Budgam
A case has been registered under sections 126(2) and 189(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Beerwah police station in Budgam. Further investigation is underway, and legal action will be taken against those involved.
Police have urged citizens to maintain peace and avoid activities that could disrupt public order.
Protesters in Kargil, Ladakh, carried “Free Palestine” banners and called for an end to Israeli control over Palestinian territories. Women and children also joined the demonstrations.
Al-Quds Day, observed on the last Friday of Ramadan, sees annual protests in Kashmir in solidarity with Palestinians. Speakers at the event reiterated support for the “oppressed people of Palestine.”
