India’s government confirmed talks began in New Delhi on Monday on a potential India–Israel Free Trade Agreement. Merchandise trade between the two countries amounted to $3.62 billion in 2024–2025. PM Modi said he would discuss “ways to strengthen cooperation” with Netanyahu and meet Israeli President Isaac Herzog during the visit.
Full diplomatic relations were established in 1992, and ties deepened after PM Modi took office in 2014. He previously visited Israel in 2017, followed by Netanyahu’s visit to India the next year.
India has expanded cooperation with Israel across defence, agriculture, technology and cybersecurity while maintaining strong ties with Gulf nations and Iran, including work on the Chabahar port. New Delhi also engages with authorities in Afghanistan.
The India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor, unveiled in 2023 to link transport and energy networks through Saudi Arabia and Israel, stalled following the 7 October Hamas attack and the subsequent war in Gaza.
