After concluding a fruitful trip to Nigeria, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to take part in the G20 Summit. This is the second stop in the prime minister’s three-nation trip. PM Modi will be attending the 19th edition of the G20 summit as a troika member after hosting the international event in New Delhi last year.
“Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to take part in the G20 Summit. I look forward to the Summit deliberations and fruitful talks with various world leaders,” the prime minister wrote on X, formally known as Twitter. The summit is scheduled to be held on November 18 and 19.

As a Troika member, India is expected to play a significant role in shaping the agenda of the upcoming summit, after India passed the presidency to Brazil. Meanwhile, Brazil’s President Lula da Silva’s government is aiming to maintain the summit’s focus on the Global South priorities. After Brazil, South Africa will be hosting the next edition of the international summit.
What’s on the cards?
In the departure statement, the prime minister mentioned that India’s successful presidency last year had elevated the G-20 to a “people’s G-20” and incorporated the voice of the global south. PM Modi also expressed his anticipation of meaningful discussions in line with the vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future."
“This year, Brazil has built upon India’s legacy. I look forward to meaningful discussions in keeping with our vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.” I will also use the opportunity to exchange views on furthering bilateral cooperation with several other leaders,” he averred.
