The United Nations on Saturday said that an additional 20,000 people have fled northern Gaza in the wake of Israel’s intensified attacks.
Scores of people at the Jabalya refugee camp were forced to leave with many now seeking shelter in UN camps.
Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) said, “People have lost everything. They need everything, including food, water, blankets, and mattresses – the basics of the basics.”
The amount of food aid entering Gaza is not sufficient to fulfil the increased needs as Palestinians scrabble for supplies.
According to CNN, the two main bakeries supported by the WFP in Gaza have also been shut down for three days, making the situation even grimmer.
Al-Banna Bakery and Zadna Bakery, both located in Deir al-Balah have had to cease operations due to shortages of flour and fuel. According to bakery workers and local residents, these shortages have made it impossible for the bakeries to continue providing bread, a crucial staple for many people in the area.
This week, the Biden administration issued a letter to the Israeli government, urging it to take action to improve the humanitarian conditions in Gaza within 30 days or face potential violations of US laws related to foreign military aid.

More Shorts400 people die in 2 weeks
Gaza’s civil defence agency said on Saturday that a sweeping Israeli military operation has killed more than 400 people in two weeks in the territory’s north, where Israel kept hammering militant targets while fighting Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Civil defence agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal said that “we have recovered more than 400 martyrs from the various targeted areas in the northern Gaza Strip”, including Jabalia and its refugee camp since the Israeli operation began.
Israel attack hospital
Health officials in Gaza have accused Israel of attacking the Indonesian Hospital in the territory’s northern town of Beit Lahia.
“Israeli tanks have completely surrounded the hospital, cut off electricity and shelled the hospital, targeting the second and third floors with artillery,” said the facility’s director, Marwan Sultan.
“There are serious risks to medical staff and patients.”
In a statement, Gaza’s health ministry also said Israel had targeted the upper floors, adding there were “more than 40 patients and wounded in addition to the medical staff” present.
“Heavy gunfire” towards the hospital and its courtyard had sparked a “state of great panic” among patients and staff, it added.
