The much-anticipated privatization of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) has been on the government’s agenda ever since the caretaker government that was in place to organize elections completed its work.
According to ARY News, a private television channel, six companies have been shortlisted for the privatization of the national flag carrier. Pakistan, which is cash-strapped, is likely to privatize its national flag carrier by the first week of August, a media report said on Wednesday.
The shortlisted firms have demanded documents connected to PIA and asked for time till July to assess the financial issues of the national airline.
Meanwhile, the authorities are delivering the essential information to the consortium of shortlisted enterprises.
It is crucial to state here that a consortium of six corporations has been pre-qualified for privatizing Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
The information indicates that the businesses included in the pre-qualified consortia will now be qualified to take part in the PIA bidding process.
The decision was made during the Privatisation Commission Board meeting this week which was chaired by Privatization Minister Aleem Khan, who emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and effective privatisation process for all loss-making state-owned firms.
To ensure transparency and foster confidence, Khan recommended broadcasting the privatisation proceedings live on media outlets to satisfy all parties about the integrity of the process.
