Terrorists opened fire on Tuesday afternoon at a popular tourist spot near Pahalgam in Kashmir, killing 26 people—mostly tourists from other states. Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to New Delhi this morning after cutting short his trip to Saudi Arabia. Soon after landing, he held a meeting at the airport with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to review the situation.

“I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X earlier.

A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is scheduled for 11 am today.

After news of the terror attack on tourists in Kashmir spread, The Resistance Front (TRF), a group linked to the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility. Officials believe the attackers may have crossed from Kishtwar in Jammu and reached Baisaran through Kokernag in south Kashmir.
