Starbucks changed a rule that let anybody to access its cafes, patios, and restrooms—even if they had not made a purchase.

Starbucks stated in an emailed statement that it has released a new code of conduct as part of its strategy to make its locations more hospitable and win back customers.

According to Starbucks spokesperson Jaci Anderson, using such a code “is something most retailers already have and is a practical step that helps us prioritise our paying customers who want to sit and enjoy our cafes or need to use the restroom during their visit.”

According to Starbucks, baristas will receive training on how to enforce the regulations and have the authority to request that anybody who disobeys them leave. They weren’t permitted to before. Workers can ask local law police for assistance if necessary.

The business states that before coming to the counter to make a purchase, customers may use the lavatory or connect to the Wi-Fi.

Starbucks’ 2018 policy that let anybody to stay at its cafés has been reversed by the company’s new regulations. After a manager in Philadelphia called the police on two black males who were waiting at a business without placing an order, that policy was implemented.
