Former Minnesota Governor Tim Walz slammed Former US President Donald Trump’s Vice Presidential pick JD Vance for saying that school shooting “is a fact of life”. Earlier this week, the Ohio Senator commented on the devastating Georgia school shooting. While he condemned the incident, Vance did not speak about the need to strengthen gun laws.
Walz’s jabs at Vance came during his address to the LGBTQ+ advocacy group on Saturday evening. US Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris’ VP pick made it clear that such events are “not fact of life”. The war of words between Walz and Vance started after a 14-year-old named Colt Grey went on a shooting rampage at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, killing 4 people.
“I don’t like this. I don’t like to admit this. I don’t like that this is a fact of life. But if you’re, if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our schools are soft targets, and we have got to bolster security at our schools,” Vance said at a campaign event in Phoenix, a day after the attack.
Walz hits back
On Saturday, Walz recalled Vance’s remarks while addressing the Human Rights Campaign, a major LGBTQ+ advocacy group, during its annual dinner in Washington. “It’s a fact of life some people are gay. But you know what’s not a fact of life? That our children need to be shot dead in schools,” Walz said.
“That’s not a fact of life. Folks are banning books, but they’re okay with weapons of war being in our schools," the Minnesota Governor added. The Harris-Walz campaign also slammed Vance for his remarks.

That is the choice in this election," he added.
Meanwhile, spokespersons from the Trump and Vance campaigns are yet to respond to Walz’s comments.
Walz raises concerns over Project 2025
During the Saturday event, Walz reiterated concerns over the Project 2025. He called it a playbook for Trump if he came back to office and said that the plan would “demonize” the LGBTQ+ community and limit abortion access.
“This time, they are not playing, they are coming to do the things they say they wanted to do,” Walz told the crowd. He insisted that the Americans should deliver a message to Trump and Republicans on November 5 (the day of polling). “Leave our kids the hell alone,” he remarked.
Walz continued targeting Vance, noting that he wouldn’t let Republicans lecture him or anyone on “family values". He slammed Vance for missing the Senate’s vote on the Child Tax Credit and also blasted Trump’s rambling regarding how he would tackle high childcare costs.
“He’s got a plan on childcare costs that no one in the world understood a damn word about,” Walz exclaimed. “We organize, we donate, we volunteer,” Walz told the crowd of 3,500 people, adding they had a chance to change the trajectory of the country for generations.
