A 21-year-old student from Nepal was fatally shot in her apartment in US during an alleged robbery, according to police reports on Saturday. The suspect, identified as 52-year-old Bobby Sinh Shah, has been taken into custody.
Muna Pandey, a student at Houston Community College, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in her apartment at approximately 5:30 pm on Monday. Police were alerted to the scene after receiving an anonymous tip about a body found in the residence. Upon arrival, authorities pronounced her dead.
Two days following the incident, police released a photograph of Shah, captured on CCTV leaving the apartment. Shah was apprehended later that day during a traffic stop and has been charged with murder.
Pandey, who relocated from Nepal to study at Houston Community College in 2021, had been out of contact with her family for several days before her death. A member of the Nepalese Association of Houston informed the New York Post that Pandey’s mother was attempting to reach her before discovering the tragic news.
The association is coordinating with the Nepalese Consulate to facilitate travel arrangements for Pandey’s mother to Houston. A GoFundMe page, which has raised nearly $30,000, is seeking to cover funeral expenses and support travel costs for her mother, allowing her to be present for her daughter’s final farewell.
