US President Donald Trump has rejected his French counterpart’s claims that he is leaving the G7 Summit in Canada early to work on a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
“Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a “cease fire” between Israel and Iran,” Trump said on Truth Social.
He added, “Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!”
Earlier today, France’s Emmanuel Macron had suggested that the United States was ready to make a diplomatic overture to Iran.
“There was an offer made for a meeting and an exchange,” Macron told reporters on the sidelines of the G7 summit.
“If the United States can obtain a ceasefire, it is a very good thing,” the French president said.
Trump will cut short his trip to Canada , where he is to attend the G7 meeting, by a day to deal with “what’s going on in the Middle East,” the White House has announced.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the president was earlier supposed to be in Canada till late Tuesday. “President Trump will return to Washington tonight so he can attend to many important matters,” she said.

Trump’s early exit from the summit indicates that the US is increasing pressure on Iran to come to the negotiating table. During the summit, Trump told reporters that he could get Iran to strike a diplomatic deal, effectively ending the conflict that began last week.
