Modi in US: PM interacts with top tech leaders and CEOs, discusses India's growth prospects

As a part of his three-day visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sat down with industry leaders in semiconductors, biotechnology, etc., to discuss the potential and opportunities India has to offer to the world.

The roundtable hosted by the Indian premier comprised several prominent giants including, Chairman President and CEO of Adobe Shantanu Narayen, Google CEO Sundar  Pichai, IBM COE Arvind Krishna, Lisa Su-Chair and CEO of AMD Noubar Afeyan - Chairman Moderna. During the meeting, the prime minister discussed ways to foster greater collaboration between the US and India when it comes to the cutting-edge areas of AI, quantum computing, semiconductors and biotechnology, ANI reported.

The meeting came on the second day of Modi’s visit to the US. On Saturday (local time), the prime minister attended the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Delaware, which was attended by US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The Saturday meeting was the farewell summit for both Biden and Kishida, who will pave the way for the new president and PM respectively.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, PM Modi emphasised India’s growth prospects, during the meeting with American CEOs. “PM @narendramodi interacted with the top tech leaders and CEOs of USA, in a Roundtable hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) School of Engineering, in New York today,” Jaiswal wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“PM emphasized India’s growth prospects and discussed initiatives to foster collaborations and innovation across diverse sectors,” he added. It is pertinent to note that the Sunday meeting took place a day after PM Modi held bilateral talks with US President Joe Biden.

During the meeting, the two leaders lauded the combined efforts to facilitate resilient, secure, and sustainable semiconductor supply chains, including the Global Foundries’ (GF) establishment of GF Kolkata Power Centre.

According to a readout from the White House, both leaders welcomed the progress made since the MoU signed in November 2023 between the Commerce Department and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to enhance the two countries’ innovation ecosystem under the “Innovation Handshake” agenda. Since then the two nations conducted industry roundtables in India and the US to fulfil their ambition.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister also addressed a charged-up gathering of the Indian diaspora in Long Island. The next thing on his itinerary will be his speech at the “Summit of the Future” at the United Nations General Assembly in New York before he departs for India. Several global leaders attended the event, and the theme of the Summit was “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow”. PM Modi also held several bilateral meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the event.
