Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched three Vande Bharat Express trains and inaugurated the much-awaited yellow line of the Bengaluru metro.
The express trains were flagged off at Bengaluru’s KSR Railway Station, while the yellow metro line was inaugurated at RV Road (Ragigudda). The new metro line is expected to reduce traffic congestion on busy routes connecting Bengaluru’s IT hub.
The Vande Bharat trains will run between Bengaluru and Belagavi, Amritsar and Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Nagpur (Ajni) and Pune. PM Modi personally flagged off the Bengaluru–Belagavi train, while the other two were launched virtually.
Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw were present at the event.
After the launches, the Prime Minister interacted with some children.
Following the yellow line inauguration, PM Modi took a metro ride from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Electronic City station. The new line is part of Metro Phase-2, covering 16 stations over 19 km.
Besides launching the yellow line, PM Modi is also scheduled to lay the foundation stone for Bengaluru metro’s Phase 3 project.
