Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the White House on Friday as part of his two-day state visit to the US, where he held bilateral talks with US President Donald Trump.
During the press conference, PM Modi said that he appreciates President Trump for keeping national interests supreme and that he will do the same.
“Whenever we talk about President Trump, everyone recalls ‘Make America Great Again’; everyone gets inspired by it. Similarly, the resolve of Viksit Bharat 2047, when India completes 100 years of independence, is gaining new momentum today,” said PM Modi.

The meeting comes amid concerns in India over Washington’s new “America First” trade agenda, as well as his hardline stance on immigration. This is the first time PM Modi is meeting Trump after he assumed office at the White House.
PM Modi emphasised that President Trump’s first term has played a significant role in strengthening India-US relations and taking them to new heights. “I am confident that in the second term too, we will move ahead at the same pace.”

“I congratulate you on this grand victory of yours, not just from my side but on behalf of 140 crore Indians as well. It is a coincidence that the people of India chose a prime minister to serve the country for a third straight time after 60 years. It is a matter of happiness for me that in this term, I have once again got the opportunity to work with President Trump,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi is on a two-day visit to the US. Besides the bilateral meeting, Trump and Modi held discussions with US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. He also met Indian-origin entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
Notably, President Trump has announced plans to implement “reciprocal tariffs” on trading partners. This move could significantly impact India’s trade dynamics with the US.
